When I first passed this place, I thought it was one of those new-age-all-show-no-go types of fusion food places... but I was wrong.
Saku is the real deal. You can tell that the chef takes real pride in his craft - everything from the décor, to the way the food is prepared, the service, the thought into the unlimited rice + salad + miso soup, and the fact that they do not allow take out so that the quality of the katsu is up to par.
Every time I've come here I've had an exemplary experience and I tell all my friends about it. I just hope it doesn't get so busy that they raise prices and/or the quality suffers. -

There were quite a few people standing outside on a Friday night so we thought we would have to wait a while. However, we were seated at a shared table immediately.
There aren't too many options on the menu, and the tonkotsu sets all come with unlimited rice, miso soup and salad. How awesome is that? You will definitely be full after eating here.
I tried the cheese katsu, curry katsu and the nabe katsu which is served in a broth. All three options were delicious but I will probably go with the cheese katsu in the future.
Would be great if the side salad can have some other vegetables added to it. -

Wow, simply one of the best tonkatsu places I've had outside of Japan. Saku has quickly became one of my favourite restaurants in Vancouver. I frequent both the Robson and Broadway location but I still like the Robson location a little more.
I feel like everything on the menu is delicious. I've literally tried everything here and there hasn't been a thing I didn't like. I especially love their cheese tonkatsu and cold udon. They give unlimited refills of soup, rice, and salad. My way of eating the salad is to put both dressings on top and is a great way to lighten things up between bites of delicious fried pork!
This is one of those gems that you have to check out and don't be put off by the line, it is definitely worth it!!! -

Wow. Just, wow. The miso tonkatsu nabe is amazing. The tsukemono is good too, but the miso tonkatsu is what should bring you to this place. Sadly it is seasonal, but if it's fall, you know what to order!

Affordable & yummy katsu?! I'll take seconds!
I came across Saku while searching for a dinner spot that would be filling. It was right down the street with barely a wait. I was seated within 5 minutes.
First, the decor was perfect. I love walking into a restaurant that just screams 'take pictures in here!!' and is SUPER clean. I loved how inviting the space was.
Second, the food was really affordable and worth the price. I went with an order of Chicken Katsu Curry for $17.50 CAD, about $13-$14 US with unlimited free refills on rice and the side of miso soup. The portion of Katsu Curry to start was already large, so I was happy to begin with.
The food was delicious and I was full by the end of the meal.
Lastly, the service was great. The server was really attentive to my table and on top of all of the orders.
If you're looking for a cheap spot to eat, come to Saku. You're getting the most (and more) for your money while enjoying the overall experience.
